Who We Are

In 2017, we recognized a simple but urgent truth: across many communities in Nigeria, the dignity of women, girls, and young people was being undermined in education, leadership, and in the systems meant to support them.

Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI) sought to solve this problem, BCAI is an internationally respected development and non-profit organization committed to advancing gender equity, social inclusion and the leadership of marginalized populations particularly women, girls, and young people across Nigeria and Africa.

We believe that lasting change happens when those affected are central to designing the solutions so we work with our primary constituents: women, girls, and young people to co-design and scale inclusive solutions that are contextually relevant, transformative and sustainable in dismantling the structural barriers that limit access to education, economic justice, and youth engagement.

Our Mission is to co-create innovative solutions with communities, women, and young people towards an equitable, just and sustainable future. We achieve this by partnering with communities, women, and young people to design and scale evidence-based, equity-driven solutions, strengthening systems, influencing policies, and unlocking opportunities that lead to lasting, dignified impact.

Vision

A world where women and young people are empowered to live dignified lives. We envision inclusive systems where women, girls, and young people access education, lead change, thrive economically and shape institutions that uphold equity, voice and dignity.

Our Focus Areas

Education Equity: BCAI advances inclusive and equitable access to education for girls and marginalized children, with a strong focus on foundational literacy, retention, and child protection. Through initiatives such as Bridging Access to Girls’ Education (BAGE), the Edquity platform, and Inclusive Neighbourhood Learning Circles, we have worked with communities and government actors to address cultural barriers, infrastructure gaps, and safety concerns that limit girls’ learning. Our education and policy engagement has contributed to strengthened child protection systems and the adoption of Gender Responsive Education Budgeting (GREB) in Kano State.

Youth Development: BCAI empowers adolescents and young people especially young women to become active leaders and contributors to their communities. Through programs such as the Youth Leading Change (YLC) initiative, the Youth Multimedia Fellowship, and the Bridge Impact Internship Program, we have supported young people to build leadership, digital, advocacy, and employability skills enabling youth across Nigeria and beyond to engage in governance processes, amplify their voices through digital platforms, and access pathways to meaningful work and civic participation.

Women’s Empowerment & Gender Justice: BCAI works to strengthen women’s economic resilience, leadership, and protection by addressing the structural and social barriers that limit women’s agency. Through initiatives such as Women Against Violence Empowered through Sustainability (WAVES) and post-COVID recovery programs, we have supported women and girls with skills, livelihoods, and survivor-centred services. By engaging traditional and religious leaders, men and boys, and government institutions, our work has contributed to shifts in harmful gender norms and the domestication of gender-responsive policies, including the VAPP Act.
